A woman committed suicide after poisoning her son and daughter at Godaguda village in Malkangiri district on Saturday night.
According to reports, Sita Madkami mixed poison with food and gave it to her eight-year-old son and five-year-old daughter before consuming it too.Sita and her children vomited after having the poisoned food, following which neighbours took them to the District Headquarters Hospital, where she was declared dead. The two children are now undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Though the reason behind Sita taking the extreme step was yet to be ascertained, it was suspected that she did it due to acute poverty of the family for the last one year after the demise of her husband.
