The Mahulapada police on Saturday unearthed the mysterious killing of a 45-year-old woman in Mahuldiha village on June 3 and arrested all the four accused.
According to information, despite her marriage with Nabin Mahanta of Kukurduba village, Sanjulata was keeping illicit relationship with her lover Samal Mahanta. The relation was opposed by her sister- in -law (Nabin’s elder sister) Sushila. So Sanjulata hatched a plan along with three others including Samal to eliminate Sushila.
On fateful day, Samal, his friend Nanhu Mahalik, Faguni and Sanjulata took Sushila in a pick-up van ((OR-14T-4769) to watch an opera at Khutunga. Then they told her that they were going to a relation’s house at Taleisara but moved towards Mahuldiha village and on the way, strangulated her to death and threw away her body near Bankonala. To mislead police that she died owing to other reasons, they slit her throat with a blade. Then getting information from the villagers, the police recovered the body on June 4 last.
Suspecting it as a case of murder, police swung into action to nab the culprits. Under the supervision of Bonai SDPO RB Panigrahi, a team was formed. It was led by Mahulapada IIC Alekh Gardia. The police finally arrested Faguni, Sanjulata, Nanhu and Samal and forwarded them to court. The vehicle used in the operation was also seized.
