She was identified as Sukumari Sabar of Pataguda under the Padmapur police limits in Rayagada district.

Sukumari had married Prahallad Sabar, a Maoist, of her village at the age of 18. After two years of marriage, she joined her husband in the Maoist operations. She was involved in the killing of Madhab Sabar, a contractor of Narayanpur.

In 2012, she went to Bangalore fearing police arrest and frequent combing operations in the jungle. She stayed there for three years to evade police arrest only. Finally, she made up her mind to surrender before the police after returning to her native village.

Meanwhile, three jawans have been airlifted to Raipur who sustained grievous injuries during an exchange of fire between Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (COBRA) battalion personnel and Maoists at Guteguda area in Eraburu forest in Malkangiri.
