Woman Maoist surrenders in Rayagada

A woman Maoist surrendered before the Rayagada SP in the presence of Commandant of 4th BN of CRPF here on Thursday. She was identified as Bharati alias Jyoti (19) of the Bishamcuttack area in the district and was working for the outlawed CPI(Maoists)’s Bansadhara Division (Nikhil Group)

Bharati confessed that she was tortured by Chhattisagarh Maoist cadres and she realised the futility of joining the Maoists against the Government.

She had joined the Maoist camp in 2009. Initially, she was working in the Jana Natya Mandali of the banned outfit and later she was promoted to the rank of party member. She claimed that some women cadres are sexually harassed by senior Maoists. Many a time, she complained the fact before Maoist leaders Nikhil, Bunty and Manoj but in vain.

She revealed that women cadres are facing such type of harassments by their own mates during their movement with the team.

According to Bharati, the division has been weakened in the area after the arrest of Azad and, hence, leaders like Nikhil and Bunty are planning to strengthen the division by recruiting more boys and girls from remote areas of Chandrapur and Gudari. They are also planning to create some sensational crimes in Rayagada district by inviting and utilising the Chhattisagarh and Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) cadres, she added.
