A woman Maoist shunned the path of violence and returned to the social mainstream by surrendering before the Kandhamal police on Sunday.
Kanti Malik alas Amita of village Gangaranga under the Baliguda police station in the district had been working with the KKBN unit of the outlawed CPI(Maoist) for the last four years.
She surrendered at the Baliguda police station in presence of Kandhamal SP Vinit Agarwal.
Amita said she was disillusioned with the behaviour of the senior leaders of Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh, who use the local tribals as cannon fodder during encounters. During exchange of fire with security forces they are asked to be in the forefront. But the senior leaders always escape from the spot.
The local cadres are being used and later branded as police informers and killed. The frequent operations of police and the setting up of Company Operating Bases (COBS) by the BSF and CRPF have hampered Maoist guerillas movement.
Besides, people’s support for the movement is waning due to the mindless killings. The SP said Amrita would be provided all support to lead a normal life as per the Government’s surrender policy. He appealed to all Maoists to lay down arms and return to mainstream of the society.
