One Radharani Debata of Ekagharia village near here was looted of Rs1.10 lakh in cash in front of the SBI main branch on Saturday morning.
Sources said Debata, a former employee in the local tehsil office, had been to the bank to withdraw the cash along with her son-in-law. However, no sooner did she come out of the bank than some miscreants swooped down on her and snatched away the bag. Soon, the victim lodged a complaint with the Talcher Sadar police. An investigation was on. It is said that the loot occurred for the first time in front of the bank.
Sources further said recently, the bank’s surrounding area has become isolated after the local administration evacuated scores of street vendors. The looters are reportedly taking advantage of the loneliness. It may be mentioned that on May 22 last, a band of miscreants also looted chain and other jewelleries from a house in broad day light. They had attacked the house owners and other family members with sharp weapons.
