A woman has filed nomination paper to lock horn against her husband for the sarpanch post in Andhara gram panchayat under Pattamundai block.
Rinarani Mallick filed nomination paper on Thursday against her husband Upendra Mallick to contest for the sarpanch post.
According to Mallick, she was defeated in 2012 as a sarpanch candidate. But she is contesting polls this time as she found that in the past five years, no development works have been undertaken in the panchayat.
“I know my wife fielded her candidature for the sapranch post against me like four other contestants. But there is nothing wrong in it,” said Upendra, who said that the duo is campaigning in a single bike.
The 18-year- old daughter of the couple, Swarnalata Mallick, who for the first time is going to cast her vote, stated that she would support and go for campaigning for her mother.
“In a democracy, everybody has his own rights to political freedom. So, political difference can be seen among blood relations. Though the relationship generally gets bitter during election, but it normalizes in the aftermath the poll,” said Swarnalata.
