Indulata Das, whose moral turpitude case against her husband just-retired IAS officer Taradatt has been closed by the State Commission for Women (SCW) abruptly, has, in an open letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, said his Government has no respect for women.
“I say it sorrowfully that injustice has no limit under your rule. A married woman’s life and respect is not protected. Victims are meted out more pains and exploiters are defended,” Das wrote on Monday.
She alleged that the SCW, which is meant to give justice to exploited women, adds to their plights and protects their exploiters. “It is because one who is given higher position in the SCW is not recruited on basis of required qualifications but by recommendation of self-interested persons in the Government,” she alleged.
Terming her as apolitical, Indulata wanted to know why the SCW closed her case abruptly.
“After getting proofs about my husband having illicit relationship with another woman, I had first sought justice from my family. When I failed to get justice, I approached you and the SCW. You entrusted the SCW with the responsibility of conducting an investigation. I was told sweet words only. Tatadatt was called (to the SWC) only twice in two years. The woman with whom Taradatt has relationship was not called to the SCW. The commission delayed the process waiting Taradatt to retire. And after he retired, it (SCW) said the case was closed on the ground that no mutual understanding was reached between me and Taradatt,” rued Indulata.
Terming the SCW decision astonishing, Indulata mentioned, “I had sought protection as I was apprehending threat to my life in living with my husband. Then where is the chance of mutual understandingIJ”
When I suspected the activities of the SCW, I sought an appointment to meet you, but the officers in your office diverted my application to the SCW.
“The Mahila Commission has turned to a ‘Maila (Dirty) Commission’. If you have a little sympathy for distressed and oppressed women, kindly oust ‘partial’ higher-ups from the SCW and appoint efficient and impartial ones,” urged Indulata.
