A woman committed suicide by consuming poison on Sunday after having failed to get her missing daughter at the kidnaper’s house. The accused in the kidnapping had been arrested by police while he was trying to fly to Dubai on November 12.
According to SP Satish Kumar Gajavhiye , a 19-year-old girl of Badakota village went on missing on November 8 last while she was going to defecate in a nearby river embankment. Her family members had lodged an FIR the next day at Rajnagar police station, alleging that it was a case of kidnap. They were apprehensive that the girl might be sold and killed by a fellow village youth Suryakanta Rout as the latter had threatened them umpteen times to kidnap the girl.
The Rajnagar police had registered a case and arrested Suryakanta with the help of Sahar police from a Mumbai airport. But the police had failed to rescue the girl from the possession of the accused. The whereabouts of the missing girl was a mystery.
On Sunday, Dulei Rout, the mother of the kidnapped girl, had an altercation with the family members of Suryakanta over the whereabouts of the girl. Disheartened, she consumed poison on the way returning to her house. She was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment, but she died on the way. The police have registered an unnatural death case, stated SP Gajabhiye.
