Sukanti Behera, wife of Upendra Behera of Adakhandamathasahi in the district here killed her 7-month-old daughter Barsharani. Sukanti was escaping to her father’s house in Bari in Jajpur district by taking her daughter on June 20 night when the girl cried. lest the family members should wake up, Sukanti gagged her kid with her palm for some time.
As a result, the girl died due to asphyxia. later, Sukanti dumped the body in a bushy place near the village and returned to her house. Though the family members most of the time asked about the whereabouts of the child, she just remained mum and cried. On Saturday, Sukanti revealed the truth and brought the matter before her husband. later, her husband Upendra lodged an FIR against Sukanti at Pattamundai police station.
Pattamundai police seized the decomposed body and arrested Sukanti on Saturday. She was produced before a local court where she was remanded in jail custody.
