A 21-year-old woman, Purnima Rana, was allegedly murdered for dowry by her husband and family members on Monday in Chindaguda village under the Khariar police station of the district.
While her husband’s family has claimed that Purima committed suicide the girl’s father Pitabasa Rana , a native of Dhanksar village of Khariar block has filed a case of dowry death against Purnima’s husband Asish Rana and his parents. Police have detained Asish and his father on the basis of complaint.
As per the complaint filed by Pitabasa, Purnima married Asish in June 2018. Asish and his parents were demanding additional three tolas of gold as dowry and as it was not given, she was murdered.
“A case under different sections of IPC and Dowry Prevention Act has been lodged. Asish and his father have been detained and further investigation on to know whether it was a case of murder or suicide” informed Khariar PS IIC Kailash Chandra Sethi.
