Woman killed by tusker

After a brief lull of jumbo menace, a wild elephant killed a woman in Sundargarh district on Friday.

A herd of about 16 elephants strayed into Nuagaon village under the Hatibari police station near Purunapani and destroyed crops and vegetables. When the villagers tried to confront them, the jumbos got enraged and all the animals except one left the scene on Thursday night.

The tusker which stayed back attacked the house of Ghana Badaik. A wall of the house collapsed in the attack and Badaik’s wife Hiramani (40) died being buried in the wee hours.
