A woman was hacked to death allegedly by her brother-in-law at Sikharpur Upar Sahi under the Chauliaganj police station late on Thursday night.
Police have detained the accused for interrogation after he surrendered. They are also questioning the deceased’s 10-year-old daughter, who was the sole witness of the incident.Sources said an altercation had erupted between the widowed woman and her brother-in-law over some issue. In a fit of rage, the latter slit her throat killing her on the spot. Family members of the deceased alleged that she has been killed over property dispute. On receiving information, the Chauliaganj police along with a forensic team rushed to the spot and began an investigation into the incident.
The woman’s brother-in-law surrendered before the police after murdering her. As per preliminary investigation, the murder is the fallout of a land dispute. A forensic team was sent to the spot and investigation was ongoing into the case,” said Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh.
