The city police on Thursday began investigations into the alleged suicide of a young married woman, whose body was fished out from the Mahanadi waters here late on Wednesday evening.
An FIR has been registered following complaints by woman’s parents that their daughter was forced to take the extreme step after she was threatened by her estranged husband. The police had retrieved the body of Jayasmita Behera (25), who married to a Dhenkanal-based youth in May. Sources said after few days of marriage, the couple turned estranged and Jayasmita was staying in her parents’ house.
Jayasmita left home claimng to go for computer classes in the evening and was last seen by onlookers over the Mahanadi Barrage where she jumped into the river. The deceased’s mother claims that her son-in-law apparently abetted her daughter to commit suicide, the police are yet to examine the in-laws. PNS
