In a bizarre incident, a female health worker was ostracised and sent to quarantine house by the villagers after she had returned from her in-laws’ house.
This happened in Jamrunda village under the Umarkote police station.
Anjali Raut, who works as a health worker in a sub-center here, had gone to her in-laws' house with her husband in Khordha district due to the death of her mother-in-law. When she was just to overcome from the grief, her husband suffered a cardiac arrest in his sleep. After completing the tenth day rituals of the duo and putting herself in home quarantine for 14 days, she returned here with due permission of the Khordha Superintendent of Police.
On arriving in Jamurunda, she faced discrimination as the villagers urged her to stay in house quarantine for 14 more days. She was also opposed to enter the health sub-centre here.
The Medical Officer-in-Charge of the sub-centre and the Umarkote PS IIC tried to settle the issue with the villagers but in vain. Finding no way out, Raut is compelled to stay in quarantine house here.
