Unidentified miscreants hacked a woman to death on Tuesday night in Keonjhar district after locking her husband in a separate room.
Two minor sons of the couple were also critically injured while trying to rescue their mother from the murderers. They were rushed to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.
While extramarital affair was suspected as a cause of the brutal attack and murder, family dispute is also not out of suspicion though the exact reason was yet to be ascertained.
According to police, Mirza Majhi was staying with his wife laxmi Majhi (45) and two sons Muna (15) and Potal (10) at Daitari Bazar under the Daitari police limits in the district.
More than three miscreants barged into Mirza’s house and locked him in a room before hacking laxmi on her neck to death.
While going to protect their mother, her two sons were attacked by the miscreants. The right hand of Muna was cut off. Potal also sustained multiple injuries on his body.
Police started investigation into the incident on Wednesday detaining a person on suspicion.
