Police on Monday arrested a woman Gram Rojgar Sevak (GRS) on the charge of committing financial irregularities relating to
MGNREGA works at Patharapada gram panchayat under Korei block in Jajpur district. The arrested GRS was identified as Sasmita Behera.
Behera has allegedly misappropriated money of many job card holders. She has also illegally deposited the money in the bank account of her son falsely describing him as a job card holder.
“During investigation, we came to know that the son of the GRS is reading in a college. We arrested the GRS on the charge of misappropriation of around Rs 2.77 lakh under Sections 420, 409, 406 and 120B of IPC. She was produced in the local court on Monday.
The court rejected her bail application and remanded her into jail custody. Police are investigating the case,” said IIC of Panikoili police station Ajay Kumar Jena
