Woman enters MLA house with marriage plea

In an unusual incident, a woman barged into the house of a ruling party MLA with a marriage proposal in Angul district on Monday night. The matter came to light after two separate cases were filed by the legislator and the woman against each other at a police station on Wednesday.

Ahuti Mohanty from Bayalamara village in Keonjhar district reached the house Pallahara MLA Mukesh Kumar Pal at Balipasi village; and identifying herself as a friend of Pal, she entered his house. She told Pal’s family members that he promised her to marry her three months back. She accused Pal of not keeping his words and threatened to ruin his political career. Coming to know about the high drama at his house, Pal went to his Balipasi village and contacted the Pallahara police for help.

In his complaint, Pal said that as he reached his house, the woman confronted him and threatened to ruin his political career by levelling false cases if he does not marry her. Pal stated that he had received a marriage proposal from the woman; but after six months, he rejected it. Since then, the woman has been pressurising his friends and senior Government officials to marry off her to him.

After Pal’s complaint, a police team reached his house and took the woman to the Pallahar police station. A case was registered against the woman under Section 20 of IPC 448/506. The woman, a law student, later lodged her complaint at the Pallahara police station accusing Pal of establishing sexual relationship with her on the pretext of marriage.  She further alleged that some supporters of Pal beat her up and damaged her mobile phone to destroy the evidence. Later, the woman was sent to Keonjhar amid police security.
