A Scorpio vehicle rammed into a house in Nuapada district, killing a woman on the spot and critically injuring her husband and son on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Namita Hans (35) from Gadramunda village under the Khariar police limits.
Eyewitnesses said the speeding Scorpio skidded off the road and rammed into the house, killing her on the spot. Her husband Naresh Hans (45) and three-year-old son Lalit sustained critical injuries.
Villagers detained the vehicle and its driver. Police reached the village to rescue the driver. However, the cops were detained by locals as well.
Khariar Additional Tahsildar Tapan Naik along with senior police officials reached the village and held discussions with the irate locals. As per latest reports, the talks were on and the local administration deployed additional police force to bring the tense situation under control.
The injured were undergoing treatment at the Khariar hospital.
