Woman dies as RSP quarter balcony caves in

In a tragic incident, around 8 am on Thursday, Premlata Gupta (45), wife of Manoj Saha, fell down from the 2nd floor when the balcony of their residence H-237 in Sector-2 collapsed.

She succumbed to her injuries at the IGH. With this mishap the question once again rose on the quality of construction and maintenance by the RSP to the workers quarters.

Many trade unions alleged that the RSP authority has been spending lakhs of rupees in the maintenance of the top official quarters whereas the other quarters are neglected on the pretext of cost control. There are many examples where the company has spent lakhs of rupees in renovation of an individual officer quarters. If the quarter in question was repaired as urged by the unions earlier, then the deceased could be saved.

In the meantime, RSP CEO Ashwini Kumar expressed his deep anguish over the tragic incidence and ordered an inquiry. He directed the enquiry committee to submit its report within seven days.

The RSP has further clarified that there was no visible indication of any fault in the structure, nor was there any complaint regarding any maintenance issue. As a result, the collapse of the structure was completely unexpected.
