A woman Dhaba owner was shot dead by two unidentified miscreants at Duajhara under Khariar block in Nuapada district late on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Basanti Meher. She had an argument with the drunken assailants over serving of food.
According to reports, the miscreants asked her to serve food and she refused as no food items were available. One of the miscreants, livid with rage over her refusal, opened fire at her from a country-made revolver, the husband of the deceased said.Meher sustained critical bullet injuries following which she was immediately shifted to a local hospital where doctors declared her dead.
“The (miscreants) were heavily drunk. They argued with my wife asking for food. We expressed our inability to serve food as no items were available at that hour. One of them suddenly opened fire at my wife,” said the husband of the deceased.
On the other hand, the assailants fled the spot soon after committing the crime. Based on a complaint, police launched an investigation and tried to ascertain the motive behind the brutal crime.
Police said that the investigation was ongoing. The miscreants would be traced and nabbed soon. All angles in the case are being probed.
