A woman gave birth to a baby in front of a Covid testing center at Umarkote in Nabarangpur district on Tuesday.
It happened when the pregnant woman was taken to the Covid testing centre before being shifted to delivery ward. According to reports, the woman Urmila Mali, wife of Bhakta Mali of Raigher block, waited for hours together in front of the testing center for Covid testing. In the meantime her condition worsened as she experienced acute pregnancy pain and delivered a baby boy by the help of her family members on the verandah of the Covid testing centre. The bizarre incident once again exposed the poor healthcare facility of the Umarkote CHC.
A few days back, there was a public outcry following mismanagement of the Covid testing and vaccination center here as at a time when the number of new Covid-19 infections is rising. People in large numbers are seen crowding the centre since early in the morning without maintaining social distance in acute summer heat.
