A 70-year-old woman and her 48-year-old daughter at Dhobasila village under tribals-dominated block Nilgiri were attacked by a mob on Sunday night allegedly on suspicion of practising witchcraft.
The victims were identified as Ratanmani Singh and her daughter Rashmita. Even as police rushed to the village to rescue the victims of witchcraft violence, tension gripped the area.
The rescued duo, according to sources, had been performing some rites along with a sorcerer, Daitari Mahalika. The sorcerer while managed to flee the spot, the victims were not only detained but also thrashed by the mob.
The police registering a case began investigation.
