A pregnant tribal woman on Monday died after giving birth to a stillborn child in Rayagada district.
According to reports, the expectant mother from Ghagudimala village under Kalyansinghpur block was being ferried to Kalyansinghpur Community Health Centre (CHC) through narrow kutcha roads for institutional delivery as the ambulance failed to reach in time due to bad road condition. After travelling for over two km, the ambulance finally arrived. By then, Dhaneya Hanshabansha (32) had already delivered the stillborn child.
“We carried the woman on a cot as the road condition is bad. We had called up for the ambulance, but it could not reach the village due to inaccessibility. It was to pick up the patient midway,” said Ghagudimul ASHA Worker Tejibansa Bisalya, who accompanied the pregnant woman.
The seven-month pregnant woman, however, died reportedly due to loss of blood, resulting in hemorrhage while being shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in a critical condition.
