An inmate of a spiritual ashram at Kakatpur in Puri district fought off an alleged attempt to rape her by biting off the tongue of a trespasser into her room late on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred in the premises of the Dadhichi Ashram.

The woman was staying alone at the ashram, taking advantage of which the miscreant came there and knocked at her door while she was asleep. When she opened the door, the person tried to outrage her modesty by tying her face with her petticoat. The woman managed to remove clothes from her face and bit off the attacker’s tongue, following which a piece of the tongue was snapped in the incident. And to save his life, the assailant fled from the spot. He was bleeding profusely from his mouth.

Getting information, police reached the ashram on Thursday morning and seized the piece of tongue detached.

Reportedly, the woman has been staying at the ashram since over three decades.
