In a deeply inhuman act and show of cruelty, a woman has been caught on camera thrashing her 82-year-old mother-in-law mercilessly after dragging her out of the house at Gelehikateni village under the Parjang police station in Dhenkanal district.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday, came to the fore after a video went viral on social media on Friday.
The woman identified as Sabita Nayak (45) was seen dragging her mother-in-law Parei Nayak by her hands and legs and beating her black and blue on the village road. The hapless octogenarian was seen crying with no one coming to her rescue.
When, on receiving information, police had reached the spot on Thursday evening, the accused woman fled from her house. On Friday morning, the cops again went to the village and brought the accused to the police station for interrogation and sent her mother-in-law to hospital for primary treatment.
Meanwhile, locals have decried the incident and demanded strong action against the accused woman.
