In a tragic incident, a woman and her newborn baby were killed in an attack by an elephant at Kadobahal village under Kirimira block of Jharsuguda district on Friday night.
According to reports, the incident took place when the woman and the infant were sleeping in their house. The pachyderm stormed into the house and crushed the duo to death. Following the mishap, irate villagers staged a road blockade alleging that the Forest Department has not taken any adequate step even as five persons have been killed in elephant attack in the panchayat this year. On being informed about the incident, Forest Department officials rushed to the spot.
