A woman attempted self-immolation outside the Naveen Niwas, the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, here on Wednesday.
She alleged that that she was sexually harassed by BJD candidate Srinath Soren of the Udala Assembly constituency in Mayurbhanj district. The identity of the woman was yet to be ascertained.
However, security personnel deployed outside the Chief Minister’s residence rescued her when she tried to pour petrol on her and tried to set her afire.
She was taken into custody by police and sent to the Capital Hospital.
The woman alleged that she was sexually harassed by Soren, following which she had brought the matter to the notice of police earlier. The woman further said she decided to take the extreme step as no action was taken against the accused.
