A woman was allegedly assaulted by her sister and two other persons in the Nilgiri area of the district over a dispute over parental property on Sunday.
The victim was identified as Suniti, daughter of late Katuri Behera of Baulagadia village under the Nilgiri police station.
Suniti, who is single, was staying at her father’s house. In the morning, without any reason, a resident of the village Ramakant Behera abused her in filthy language.
Later, Suniti’s elder sister Basanti, who is married and Ramakant’s son Kanhei joined him and brutally assaulted Suniti. Later, they tied her to a tree and tortured her.
After hearing the screams of Suniti, some neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued her. She was rushed to the Nilgiri Sub-Divisional Hospital in a critical condition.
A complaint has been lodged with the Nilgiri police alleging Suniti’s elder sister Basanti of harassing her for the ancestral property at the behest of his husband and nephew.
