The city police after registering a case under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act on Wednesday arrested the aunt of a four-year-old girl and forwarded her to court, from where the 35-year-old woman was sent to jail.
Basing on a complaint filed by the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC), the Phase-II police station at Markat Nagar here had booked Pranati Roul of the city under Section 323 of IPC and Section 75 of the JJ (CPC) Act. She was later arrested following police investigations.
The CWC on Tuesday had rescued the minor girl from her aunt’s house here at Sector 11 of Markat Nagar after getting a video clipping showing Pranati was repeatedly beating the minor girl with a broom on the terrace of their house. The girl had several injuries on her body.
On inquiry, it was revealed that the girl’s parents live in New Delhi and she had been staying with her aunt (father’s sister) for over nine months now. The girl confided to the police and CWC members that her aunt beat up her mercilessly even for minor faults.
