Iswar Harijan, a 65-year-old man of village Talapadar under the Umarkote police limits, was allegedly taken to the police station and detained for four days and tortured without any arrest being recorded.According to Iswar’s wife Chanchala, their son Jesudan is involved in a criminal case and a non-billable warrant is pending against him for long. In order to trace Jesudan’s whereabouts, the police forcibly took Iswar to the police station and kept him in the lock-up for four days without food and water.
Iswar was subjected to torture physically and mentally by the police so as to forcefully extract a tip-off about Jesudan, alleged Chanchala. She further said policemen also did not allow her to see her husband for the past four days forcing her to produce Jesudan before them, but after the intervention of some mediapersons, the police abruptly released her husband. “I met my husband after four days and he is so demoralised. He refuses to make eye contact and frequently, cries over the humiliation he faced. The officials, who tortured my husband, must be punished,” Chanchala fumed. However, the police described the allegations as false and concocted to defame them.
