A woman was killed along with her newborn baby after a speeding truck hit an auto-rickshaw near Khamarpada on National Highway-16 in the district on Saturday.
Four others including an ASHA worker sustained critical injuries in the mishap and were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
The deceased woman identified as Mani Mallick (27), a resident of Teragaon village under Mahakalpada block of the district, was admitted to the DHH on Friday.
She was returning home along with an Asha worker and three others in an auto-rickshaw after giving birth to a girl child when the mishap took place in the wee hours.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of a speeding truck lost control of the wheels and ploughed into the auto-rickshaw, killing the woman and her baby on the spot.
After getting information, police rushed to the spot and seized the truck. A pall of gloom descended in Teragaon when the locals came to know about the incident.
