A woman and her mother were forcefully confined in a room and sexually assaulted by a man at Basanti Colony under the Udit Nagar police here for over 40 days.
After getting information, police rescued the mother-daughter duo on Tuesday night and arrested the accused.
Sources said the two women were rescued from the house of one Ashok Mohanty, who claims to be a journalist.
As per the complaint lodged by the victim’s family members, Mohanty used to torture the two women both physically and mentally. He was also blackmailing them after shooting their nude pictures. Mohanty was not even allowing them to speak to other people in the locality.
But somehow, the duo managed to contact their relatives and informed them about their ordeal. Following which the relatives lodged a complaint with the Udit Nagar police.
The police also arrested the accused and produced him in court on Wednesday.
