A day after a dead body was recovered from a sack floating in a canal, police arrested two persons in this connection in Khaira block of Baleswar district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Ramesh Das of Niranjanbindha village in Barada panchayat of Khaira block and the accused are his wife Sulochana and younger brother Jitesh.
Preliminary investigation revealed that while Ramesh was originally from Brahmapur, he was staying with his in-laws here. Sources said that on May 11, Sulochana and Ramesh had a dispute. That night while Ramesh was sleeping, Sulochana in a fit of rage went and slit his throat. Later, she and Jitesh went by a scooter and disposed of the body in a sack in the canal near Balrampur. The next day, villagers saw the sack and got suspicious. They informed the Simulia police, after which the latter arrived. On opening the sack, the cops saw the body.
On suspicion, police detained Sulochana for interrogation, during which she confessed to the crime.
After her confession, police arrested both Sulochana and Jitesh. The duo was then produced in court.
