A decomposed body of an unidentified woman was found on the banks of the Basuaghai river under the Badagada police station in the city on Saturday.
Local residents first spotted the body, which was lying in the bushes on the riverbank, and informed police. Cops after reaching the spot recovered the body, sent it for postmortem and started an investigation into the incident. .
Given the circumstantial evidence, police suspected that the woman might have been murdered and dumped on the riverbank.
The identity of the deceased was yet to be ascertained. Police were trying to identify the deceased and who is behind the incident. A forensic team was roped in to collect evidence from the spot.
There are some brick kilns in the vicinity. Police asked people about the woman at these brick kilns, believing that she might have been engaged there.
Police also visited nearby villages and sought information from various police stations about any missing persons.
