Withdrawal of user fees collection demanded

The VSS Nagar Unnayan Parishad has strongly opposed the imposition of user fees on city dwellers by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Parishad general secretary Dillip Dashsharma said the BMC is levying higher tax on the citizens without providing service properly. This is highly disgraceful, he said, adding “Not only for last year, but all user fees collection should be withdrawn”.

The body alleged that that the BMC’s service for solid waste management is very poor. Citing examples, Dashsharma said, “Many drainage in the city are not being cleaned and remain open without slabs. Similarly, it is not carrying out anti-mosquito drives for the last couple of months. Even at many places, solid wastages are found trashed on roadside, he said. The BMC is only focusing on collecting tax without providing satisfactory service to the denizens.” The body threatened that all Unayan Parishads under the BMC would protest if collection of all user fees are not withdrawn.
