The Congress on Sunday opposed the Registrar of Cooperative Societies’ recent notification allowing more time to PACS members to deposit fees for participation in the forthcoming Cooperative Elections.
“Issuing of notification for collection of election fees from PACS members and giving them more time to deposit fees will yield dangers. Hence, these notifications should immediately be withdrawn,” demanded Pradesh Congress Committee president Jaydev Jena.
Jena made this demand while addressing a meeting of the Odisha Pradesh Cooperative Election Coordination Committee held here. “Collection of fees to give voting right to people is unconstitutional. The ruling BJD is trying to deposit black chit fund and mines funds in the name of members. The Congress would not let it happen,” he said.
He demanded that the Cooperative Act should be amended by November 30 in the Assembly and PACS members be given voting right without charging any fee on them.
leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Narasingha Mishra speaking on the occasion said Chief Minister has lost morality to continue in office as the CBI has interrogated his personal aide Saroj Sahu in connection with chit fund scam.
Among others former PCC president Niranjan Patnaik, former Minister Prasad Harichandan, Anant Prasad Sethi, Kailash Acharya, Matlub Ali, Kishore Patel, Jagannath Patnaik, Ganeswar Behera, Subal Sahu, Amiya Patnaik and Debi Prasanna Chand were present.
Nearly, 1.46 lakh representative would be elected in the Cooperative elections to be held on January 18 and 25, 2015.
