Demanding scraping of the three farm legislations by the Modi Government, withdrawal of Essential Commodities Act and Odisha farm Ordinance and implementation of the Swaminathan Committee recommendationsm farmer organisations under the banner of All India Kishan Sangharsha Coordination Committee, Odisha on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the State Governor. The united front of farmers took out a rally and staged a dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan to air their views. They pointed out that despite repeated assurances by the Government, paddy procurement is not being streamlined in the State.
The State Government should ensure MSP of 23 crops finalised by the Union Government while transactions are in mandis, the leaders said. The farmer leaders said that the Centre’s farm legislations would help corporate interests rather than real farmers. They also urged the Government to regularise lapsed tokens and fix the MSP of paddy at Rs 2,930 as unanimously passed in the State Assembly.
