The All Odisha Transport Workers’ Federation (AOTWF) has protested a recent circular issued by the State Commerce and Transport Department which mandates cancellation of drivers’ licences following road accidents.
Federation general secretary Radharaman Sarangi said the State Government has issued the circular by taking cue of the Central Government’s Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2015. We oppose the Bill along with the State Government’s circular, he added.
In the circular, it is mentioned that the drivers have to attend two-day training at Chhatia by paying Rs 1,250 before renewing their driving licences. “It is against the interest of transport workers of the State,” he said, adding, “If the State Government does not roll back the decision, they would hit the street.”
