Witchcraft suspicion: Two M’bhanj women killed

Published on:

Two tribal women were allegedly hacked to death by a man of the community at Madhupur village under the Jamda police station in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday as they were suspected to be practising witchcraft.

Later, the accused shot an arrow at his aunt Jaba Baske. The man was identified as Shyam Baske of the same village. The deceased women were identified as Karmi Murmu and Surya Hembram.

Sources said Shyam suspected that the women were practising sorcery on him, as a result which he was unable to father a child. And when his suspicion crossed the limits, he decided to eliminate them.

Shyam hacked the duo, who happened to be his neighbours, with an axe; and after returning home, he attacked his aunt with an arrow injuring her critically.

The woman was rushed to the Jamda hospital and her health condition was stated to be critical.

Soon after his killing spree, Shyam surrendered before the local police. A probe into the incident was underway.
