Amid the lockdown restrictions, a prediction of a low pressure over the Andaman sea towards the end of April is likely to pose as a major challenge for the State Government.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that a possible low pressure over the south Andaman sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal on April 30 may trigger heavy rainfall in Odisha.
However, there would be no major effect of the low pressure on Odisha, said Director of Bhubaneswar MeT HR Biswas, adding that it may move towards southeast the Myanmar and Bangladesh coasts.
Notably, last year, Odisha was hit worst when the severe cyclonic storm Fani made a landfall in Puri district on May 3. Now, if the low-pressure system becomes well-marked and intensifies into a cyclonic storm following depression and hits the Odisha coast with a wind speed of 50 km to 60 km per hour, the State will witness another big natural disaster during the period when the entire Government machinery is occupied with the Covid-19 pandemic fight.
