Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife) JD Sharma on Sunday said the Nandankanan zoo authorities would soon shift the six-year-old wild male tiger, which had reentered the zoo on June 23, to the enclosure.
“We are trying our best to bring the tiger into the enclosure. A team of National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) will come to take stock of the situation and also to decide the future home of the tiger,” said Sharma, adding that, the tiger safari which has remained closed for last seven days will be opened for visitors soon. It is to be noted here that since June 23last, the day the tiger reentered the zoo, the zoo officials had closed down the tiger safari for an indefinite period as part of safety measures for the visitors.
The visitors were disgruntled over the decision to shut the tiger safari. “We came from Kolkata and were very excited to see the tiger safari at Nandankanan. But after reaching here, we were disheartened to know that the safari had been closed for last seven days,” said a tourist. Meanwhile, Nandankanan Surakshya Manch demanded housing of the wild tiger in the zoo and immediate opening of the safari with adequate security measures for the visitors.
