Wild tiger enters Nandankanan enclosure

Published on:

The wild tiger which had strayed into the Nandankanan Zoo last month entered into an enclosure adjacent to the special enclosure prepared for it on Sunday night.

“The tiger entered an enclosure on its own at 8.20 pm on Sunday, making easy for us to track its movement. Efforts are on to bring it to the special enclosure specially made for it,” said Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) JD Sharma.

The wildcat had first entered the zoo’s safari on April 28 and fled away by jumping 18-foot iron mesh wall of an enclosure of the safari on May 31. Again, it entered the tiger safari of the zoo in June last week.

“Elaborate arrangements have been made to keep strict vigil on the tiger. Four CCTVs were installed in the enclosure and special staffs were engaged. Now our main focus is to bring the tiger into the special enclosure which was made for it,” Sharma said.  It is to be noted here that the tiger will be kept in the zoo for two months as per the decision of National Tiger Conservation Authority.
