Why Jena not arrested, asks Purandeswari

BJP State in-charge D Purandeswari on Thursday questioned the State Government as to why Mahanga MLA and Law Minister Pratap Jena has not been arrested even though he has been named in the FIR in the case of murder of BJP leader Kulamani Baral and his associate in Mahanga of Cuttack district.

“I urge Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to open his eyes and ears to watch and hear what is happening in the State,” she said targeting the Government alleging rising crimes in the State.

Purandeswari was addressing a news conference at Mahanga after meeting the family members of the two deceased. She alleged that the current investigation in the double murder case might not result in justice for those killed.

In his reaction, BJD spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Dr Sasmit Patra came down heavily on Purandeswari for alleging inaction of the State Government over the murder of Baral and his associate.

Patra said it appears Purandareswari is unaware that the accused in the murder case were arrested within 48 hours along with the main accused.

“She is also probably unaware that the BJD Government has zero tolerance towards violence and has always taken strictest action against the culprits, for which people of Odisha have been blessing the BJD for five successive terms in Government,” he said.
