In an effort to ensure human rights  including right to life and livelihood under the purview of the Indian Constitution,  the World Human Rights Protection Organisation (India) reconstituted its Sambalpur unit with an aim to come closer to people. State president Dr Abhinna Hota declared the new office bearers of the unit at Sambalpur with Pradeep Patnaik as district president and Manoj Kumar Bahidar as the general secretary.

“There has been a continuous breakage of system in many fronts in Odisha over last 20 years. And we devoted to curb such injustice are working to protect human rights,” said Dr Hota. He said this citing the examples of rights violations from Kalinga Nagar to Sohela in Bargarh district. During the Covid pandemic time, the sufferings of the common people have increased manifold besides lack of proper treatment. The WHRPO interfered in many cases and ensured healthcare for people who got deprived of it due to their simplicity and ignorance, Hota added.

The new office bearers of Sambalpur raised the issues of the local industries violating human rights in many fronts in connivance with local administrations. “Industries are spending CSR funds for the luxury of the local authorities which should be meant for the development of the locality including infrastructure development. But practically this goes against the very purpose of the CSR in the locality and the people affected by the industries, said coordinator Nandini Pradhan.

“In Sambalpur and western Odisha region, we will take up the farmers’ issues in the coming harvesting season for smooth sale of paddy in the market yards,” the members of the new committee said, adding, “At the same time we will work nationally to press for including ‘right to employment’ under fundamental rights of the Constitution,” said advocate cum coordinator of the organisation Subhadarshini Mohanty. “We will also take up the matter of child missing cases with all seriousness,” she added.
