With the demise of Justice Patra, there is uncertainty over the progress and fate of the chit fund scam inquiry. legal experts are of the view that whoever now takes charge of the probe may have to start all over again. The State Government had appointed Justice Patra as the one-man Judicial Commission of Enquiry to hear the complaints of the chit fund depositors and suggest steps for return of their money.
After three successive extensions of the commission’s tenure, the Government had provided it necessary infrastructure this month for digitisation process,About 10 lakh affidavits made by depositors are pending scrutiny by the commission. The database of the depositors is yet to get underway.
