After gangster Sk Haider’s cunningly slipped out of the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, the Odisha police, especially the Prisons and Correctional Services Department, has become proactive.
Director General of Prisons and Director of Correctional Services Santosh Kumar Upadhyay recently directed the jail officials and the SPs to conduct surprise checks in the prisons where hardcore criminals are lodged.
Upadhaya has also instructed to check the belongings of the inmates and keep vigilant on the moments of the visitors of the hardcore criminals.
Following the directions of Upadhyay, the surprise raids were conducted in various jails of the State, including Jharpada, Bhubaneswar. But so far, no such raid has been conducted in Rourkela Special Jail though many of its inmates are hardcore criminals or naxals or PLFI members. On several occasions, many of them are referred to the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) or other hospitals for treatment. So, there is every possibility of flee during transit from jail to hospital. So now, the question is when the surprise raid will be conducted in Rourkela Special Jail?
As no surprise raid is conducted in the Rourkela Jail where about 500 inmates are there, they feel easy to continue illegal practices inside the jail. So, to tighten them and to avoid any eventuality in future the surprise raid as per the instruction of Upadhaya is inevitable in Rourkela Jail.
According to Rourkela Jail superintendent Jeevan Singh Munda very soon a surprise raid will be conducted for a detail checking.
