Hundreds of political and social activists on Friday staged a dharna near the Orissa High Court here demanding to set up a Bench of the High Court in western Odisha. leaders of major political parties later led a delegation to meet Chief Justice Vineet Saran and submitted a memorandum.
Activists under the banner of the Paschim Odisha Nagarika Kriyanushtan Committee staged the dharna at Bellview Square near the High Court reviving the HC Bench agitation after almost three years.
Notably, the State Government had set up a judicial commission in this light which submitted its report to the Government in August 2014. Although the findings of the panel are not made public yet, it was learnt that the panel had reportedly suggested that no HC Bench could be set up anywhere as per the guidelines made by the Justice Yashwant Singh Commission of Enquiry.
