The Ganjam district Weightlifting Association on Wednesday felicitated Odisha weightlifter Bhaktaram Desti for clinching a gold medal in Commonwealth Championship and his coach Sita Jena.
The 20-year-old clinched the metal in the 49kg category in the championship held in the South Pacific island nation of Samoa. Association district president Kumud Chandra Sahu demanded that the State Government construct an indoor stadium in Brahmapur, a sports academy and an office room for the association.
Among others, association general secretary Narayan Sahu, advisor Rabi Rath, district secretary Gagarin Nayak, Sachidananda Dash, Sunyachandra Dash, Akhaya Patnaik, Ramesh Chandra Padhi, S Ramarao and Udaya Nath Jethi were present.
