The weekend shutdown imposed by the State Government in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus, took effect in all urban areas of the State from Saturday morning.The restrictions have been put in place in all the urban areas of the 30 districts till Monday 5 am.As many as 32 platoons of police force, including 12 in Cuttack and 20 in Bhubaneswar, have been deployed to ensure strict enforcement of the shutdown norms. A total of 100 officers in Cuttack and 150 in Bhubaneswar are supervising the overall arrangements and compliance of the guidelines.
According to police sources, as many as 68 checkpoints, 25 in Cuttack and 43 in Bhubaneswar, have been set up for enforcing the shutdown regulations.
However, all essential services including hospitals, nursing homes, medicine stores, petrol pumps and milk booths are allowed to function as usual during the shutdown.
